Why I created Brooklyn Braised

I’ve had a passion for food for as long as I can remember. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of sitting at the kitchen table while my family prepared our meals for the week ahead. Canned and frozen foods—not allowed! We spent hours in the local Brooklyn farmers markets looking for fresh, nutritious ingredients for our home-cooked meals.

One day, I was finally old enough to join in and help with the preparations. Promoted to “sous chef,” my job was to chop the vegetables and herbs for the farm-fresh family recipes, like braised chicken thighs with cabbage and root vegetables.

When I went off to college in Philadelphia, my love of good food continued and I started to perfect my own cooking style. I took classes at local culinary schools to hone my craft and worked in restaurants where I learned how to run a business in the food industry.  

When it was time for me to go to graduate school, I moved closer to home—back to New York City.

I started hosting brunches and dinner parties for my friends, and that’s when I fully realized my passion for creating experiences for my community through healthy, fresh and delicious food … like I had with my family when I was a child.

When I started hearing stories from my neighbors in the Bedford Stuyvesant community about how hard it still was to find healthy food options in their neighborhood, I knew I could help.  

And that’s what inspired me to create Brooklyn Braised.

My love of cooking farm-fresh meals for my loved ones could go a step further and feed my community, by providing wholesome and convenient home-cooked meals and delivering them right to their door.

Now, I provide eclectic and soulful meals inspired by my own home-cooked recipes, and hearty enough to satisfy vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters.

Every week, I work with a network of local farmers to make sure that each and every meal I prepare is made of only the freshest ingredients. Our food has no refined sugars, no preservatives and no hydrogenated oils. Just seasonal, nutrient-dense ingredients that are organically and sustainably sourced.

And, to make it as convenient as possible for busy families, all you have to do is go to our website and choose your meals for the week and they’ll be delivered right to your door. Just heat them up at dinner time!

Our winter menu includes vegan and vegetarian entrees like Curried Chickpeas with Spinach and Tomatoes with Brown Rice, and Creamy Mushroom and Thyme Risotto with Roasted Fall Vegetables. Our fish and meat dishes include Wild Basa Fish with Macaroni and Cheese and Crispy Garlic Green Beans, and Half Skillet Cornish Hen with Carrots and Roasted New Potatoes.
